10. Please describe the expected outcomes from this project. Are the outcomes based on the state academic standards? Do you expect this project to help meet and exceed technology standards, other academic standards or other non-academic goals?
With this technology students will create cross-curricular projects. For example, in the history project the students wil incorporate music skills. They will actually make their own music and edit it, or they will find music from appropriate time periods to incorporate into their projects. This equipment will allow them the exploration of merging of computer skills and artistic abilities.
At the earlier stages, the use of technology will include students using still photography and audio as a showcase for their creativity and knowledge. Assessments will no longer be just pencil and paper. When appropriate, students will tell their stories using digital media. Personal narratives will include family photos and quotes from interview subjects. Field trips will be reported using photos from the actual experience with each student's experience being unique.
At the later stages, students will be incorporate earlier skills into projects using video cameras and editing software. Assessments will no longer be limited to writing essays and mutliple choice tests. Students will showcase their understanding through capturing video to tell their stories. Instead of pinning leaves to foamboard, a student will video the exploration of a local park and explain the features of the various types of trees. To show understanding of slope-intercept, a student will use footage from a football game to explain unkown pairs equalling a fixed number (10 yards). Thematic material of novels will be gathered using footage from various other aspects of the same themes (rebellion, social conflict, piety, compromise, etc.).
Students will be able to operate a digital camera and/or digital camcorder.
Students will be able to operate the software recommended for digital or video production.
Students will be able to write a short script/ digital story for an appropriate audience.
Students will be able to identify an appropriate message.
Students will be able to collaborate with peers in school and in the gloal community.
Students will be able to update video or digital images to appropriate websites, blogs or wikis.
Students will become better learners by taking more ownership in their own learning processes. Students will develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
ORIGINAL MATERIAL 10. Please describe the expected outcomes from this project. Are the outcomes based on the state
academic standards? Do you expect this project to help meet and exceed technology standards,
other academic standards or other non-academic goals?
The initiative is a multi-tiered approach with development of skill sets at each stage:
1. digital still usage
2. video/audio recording
3. editing
4. delivery-videoconference, podcasts, CD/DVD
Students would demonstrate creative thinking while constructing knowledge and developing innovative products and processes using technology.
Students would use digital media and virtual environments to communicate and work collaboratively to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
In addition, teachers would use the technology to facilitate learning experiences that advance student creativity and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. They could plan and design authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating these contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students need for workplace success in the future.
Teachers would also benefit because the technology would improve their work processes and productivity while changing professional practice.
This project would help meet and exceed technology standards for teachers and students.
